BEACH CITIZEN OF THE YEAR

On September 24, 2017, I was recognized as the 2017 Beach Citizen of the Year.

Jason Balgopal, the 2017 Beach Citizen of the Year, delivers a speech at the award ceremony at Millennium Garden in Woodbine Park on Sept. 24, 2017.

The award is intended to recognize selfless civic activity – anyone who regularly gives of their time for the benefit of the community. Past winners have included youth sports organizers, community theatre boosters, historic preservationists, girl guide leaders, and community activists of all stripes.

The annual award was founded and is presented by Community Centre 55, the Beaches Lions Club, and Beach Metro News. It has been handed out since 2001. Once the nominations are in, the past winners come together to decide who will be the next winner based on a variety of criteria.

In an article, the Beach Metro News described the background of my work which gave rise to the recognition, as did briefly the Beach Mirror.  The Beach Metro News further wrote a follow up article about the ceremony itself.

I was also very fortunate to have Arthur Potts, my Member of Provincial Parliament, recognize me in the Legislature for this award.

In September, 2009, I received the Community Centre 55 Clean and Beautiful Community Award, for my extensive work in removing graffiti vandalism in my local area.
